Beetle Love Through the Years

Wednesday, August 17, 2011
Make no mistake about it, the iconic Volkswagen Beetle is one of my favorite cars--ever. I owned the "New" Beetle when it was introduced in 1998, and admittedly still miss it. Supposedly, the latest incarnation of the model is due to start hitting VW dealerships any day now in the U.S. In the meantime, I found the coolest Facebook page dedicated to the Bug called Beetles, Bugs and Buyers. It has a most impressive collection of Beetle photos through the decades. Here's just a small selection of them...if you're a Beetle owner or lover, then check them out and enjoy.

  1. Those pics are awesome! The orange one looks almost exactly like my old 73' Super Beetle. I shoulda had my bride dress up and pose like that dame for a picture!

  2. My family had a Beetle during the late 70's and since I was a child it never seemed a small car to me. I always thought it was cool how they had their trunk in the front and motor in the back.
That VW mobile home is great by the way!

  3. These are some great photos. I love the girls outfit in the one with the orange Beetle. That camper one was kind of neat and it's funny that there was one on top of that boat. I did'nt realize that they had been around in the 1940s. My cousin took my brother, her sister and I to the drive-in theater in the late 70s in her Beetle, that's the only time that I've been in one.

  4. I had a 1969 VW while in college.

When I graduated I was all grown up and deserved a grow up car. I sold my bug and got a "big girl" car and have regretted it ever since.

Hardly a day goes by that I don't miss my baby blue bug.

Thanks for the post and the fond memories.

  6. mine was a 1962 . went through w a terrible when all cars shut down in. only problem was the engine noise which almost caused the occupants to get shot in a police road stop when the driver mistook the command " Holdon"as "go on".
