About Me
Hi there — I’m Pam. Kick off your shoes, pour yourself a cocktail, and sink your toes into the shag carpeting — you’ve arrived at Go Retro!
I was inspired to start this site in 2007 when I realized I was itching to write about so many people, places, and things from the pop culture past that deserved to have a little love spilled for them. Really, it started much earlier than that when I became a fan of the Beatles. I went to see a cover band with one of my high school friends and just before the curtain came up, we discussed how ridiculous the female fans were during Beatlemania...the breast pounding (ouch!), the hysteria, and the crying. I'm proud to say that by the end of that show, I was converted into one of those screaming girls (with my breasts still intact, thank goodness.)
From the Beatles I started exploring other groups and singers from the 1960s, then the '70s and '50s, and that segued into appreciation for the fashion, furniture, advertising, television, movies and history of our past. (I already lived through the 1980s which, for better or for worse, will always have a place in my heart.)
But despite the musings I dole out that cover past decades, I really do consider myself a modern girl (who is just old fashioned in some ways) living in the 21st century. I don’t typically walk around every day looking like a go-go dancer; I prefer to keep a few pieces in my wardrobe that are decidedly retro and maybe play up the eye makeup once in a while, but most of the time I keep things contemporary and classic.
I’m also a social media manager and have several years of digital marketing experience under my belt. A lover of the written word and effective communication, I’ve created a variety of content from social media updates to descriptive product copy to case studies, and can make messaging sound snappy or technical depending on the audience. See the Hire Me section to learn more about my skills and services.
I’ve written several articles for REBEAT Magazine, a site devoted to music from the 1950s to the 1980s, and am a published author of several online informative articles in the areas of health, fitness, and nutrition.
When I’m not writing or working I love staying in shape, running, biking, cooking, taking care of my cats, planning events with my Meetup group, seeing movies, dining out, traveling, reading, knitting and crocheting.
You can contact me via the form at the bottom right of the site. Thanks for stopping by. Now go immerse yourself in some Go Retro grooviness!
